To All Members:
I wish to convey to all of you of the latest news pertaining to this particular kind of water which resides in Lakes and in Rivers. It is of Blue-Green Algae color and it stinks really bad and is highly toxic to animals who drink this and penetrates the skin of animals if they get wet with it. As of this date being September 28th, 2009 over a dozen animals have died from this water. It permeates the air so bad that people cannot go outside lest they too get sick and this is human poisoning just breathing its deadly air content.
The cause is the runoff from farms who use fertilizer and phosphorous to grow the crops and if the conditions are right like a long dry spell, and then heavy rains this ends up in the Lakes and River streams. Also besides the farm runoff, others include lawn fertilizers, septic systems and even ashes from leaves being burned on the shorelines are among additional factors contributing to the algae problems.
Here is some reports to inform you as follows:
State officials are telling people who live on algae-covered lakes to close their windows, stop taking walks along the picturesque shorelines and keep their dogs from drinking the rank water.
"It is like living in the sewer for three weeks. You gag. You cannot go outside," she said. "We have pictures of squirrels that are dead underneath the scum and fish that are dead. ... It has gotten out of control because of the nutrient loads we as humans are adding to the waters."
Symptoms for humans include rash, hives, runny nose, irritated eyes and throat irritation. Rashes, sore throats and eye irritation among the problems, she said.
"If the water is pea-soup green, be sure to have clean water along to wash the dog off," Vennie said. "Don't let it drink the water." In France, a horse died on a beach in July after falling into some decaying algae sludge.
If you see your animal either fall into this or drinks from it, please wash the animal off completely and then take your pet immediately to a Veterinarian to be treated for deadly algae poisoning. Do not delay on this matter or the animal will die.
Here is a picture of what the water looks like so please be careful and avoid it at all costs, and if you cannot avoid it, stay inside and do not let your pet outside without any supervision if such is nearby and don't let it get near it, so make sure you move away and get your pet to follow you to a safer location, and do not let your eyes wander away from your pet. It just takes less than 30 seconds for any pet to drink it and then you have an instant emergency situation.
